The Rt Hon Mark Field

The Rt Hon Mark Christopher Field is a former MP and FCO Minister who represented the high-profile central London constituency of the Cities of London and Westminster in the UK Parliament between June 2001 and November 2019.

Educated at Reading School and St Edmund Hall, Oxford, (BA, 1987; MA 1992) he practised as a solicitor with Freshfields in the early 1990s. Subsequently he founded, ran and sold two start-up businesses in publishing and legal recruitment before embarking upon public service.

During his time in parliament he developed a widely recognised expertise in financial and professional services at home alongside leading for the UK government’s economic diplomacy in its international energy strategy, cyber security and fintech/green finance during four years, initially as Chairman of the Conservatives’ International Office and then as the Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Travelling extensively in the region he enjoyed responsibility for the bilateral relationships with China, India and Japan; developing future UK strategy and co-operation with ASEAN (he was the first UK Minister to visit all ten of its nations) and promoting the ever-closer security and trade partnerships with Australia and New Zealand.

During his time in parliament, he was a regular media performer on TV and national radio; he also wrote extensively on economic and geopolitical affairs with two books of his essays and articles released by Biteback Publishing as Between the Crashes (2013) and The Best of Times (2016). The same house published his well-received memoir, The End of an Era, in March 2025.

Since leaving public life he has embarked upon a portfolio career which currently includes roles as non-executive Chairman to Isle of Man based Capital International Bank; senior independent NED to two AIM-listed companies, the Salford-based wealth/asset managers, Frenkel Topping Group PLC and fire technology and suppression specialists, Lifesafe Holdings PLC; and senior consultant to restructuring and turnaround specialists, Buchler Phillips LLP. Most recently he has been appointed as a NED to a Luxembourg registered holding company of a leading European family office investment fund for whom he is advising on a range of commercial and industrial acquisitions of controlling stakes in privately owned enterprises in the UK and mainland Europe.

His PLC experience has included chairing Audit, Remuneration and Risk committees and he is also currently the Consumer Champion to a public quoted, FCA-regulated wealth/asset management concern with responsibility for its consumer duty obligations.
