Sophia is a Partner and Barrister in Burness Paull LLP’s Dispute Resolution team. She specialises in contentious corporate restructurings and insolvency litigation. A significant amount of this work is in the energy and financial services sectors, where she supports clients across sectors including oil and gas, banking, pensions, wealth, asset management and private equity.
She has considerable experience dealing with large scale corporate restructurings having acted in a number of schemes of arrangement and capital reductions, including in the $2.7 billion restructuring plan for Premier Oil plc, the heavily contested scheme of arrangement for the same company and the £2.3 billion scheme of arrangement for Albion Acquisitions Limited.
Sophia is dual qualified as a Barrister in England & Wales and Scottish Solicitor and Notary Public. She practised in London and worked offshore as a lawyer for a number of years in Guernsey and later the Cayman Islands where she was admitted as an Attorney-at-Law.
Sophia sits on the Insolvency Committee for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and the Scottish R3 Technical Committee for the Association of Business Recovery Professionals.
